Hello Masters Racers,
We hope this email finds you healthy. What a wild ride it has been since we abruptly ended the season in March. We are finally settling into an understanding of what the 2020-2021 season will look like (...being cautiously aware things may continue to change throughout the season). We hope you are starting your preseason rituals looking for the first dustings of snowfall on the mountain peaks, dry-land training, inventorying your equipment and evaluating options for training, season passes, and racing. Key for this season will be adaptability and patience. Resorts so far are mixed on whether or not they will require reservations, but capacity limits, limited lodge access, booting up at the car, mostly pre-packaged food, social distancing and mask requirements seems to be common amongst the operating plans released so far. With the release of the resort plans and the U.S. Ski & Snowboard 2020-21 COVID-19 Alpine Policies and Procedures v1.1 division organizers are now working with the resorts and race departments to finalize the Masters race schedules. We ask for your patience and hope to share schedules for all the divisions in the next few weeks. We continue to move forward with planning for the Regional and National events, but please be aware that due to the ongoing developments, venues and schedules are not final for any of the major events.

MAJOR EVENTS UPDATE
We are excited to share the news that we are moving forward with plans to host all of the Masters major events! The race portion between the start gate and the finish line will very much remain the same but the on- and off-hill logistics will be adjusted as needed to adapt to COVID-19 guidance from U.S. Ski & Snowboard, the resorts, and federal, state and local authorities. One key change to note is a 100 racer maximum for events. Events may be capacity limited and/or have adapted schedules with age groups racing on different days.
FIS Masters Cup/Western Regional Championships will reman February 5-7, but we are most likely changing to a new location.
National Championships are still being discussed with Sun Valley March 14-20, 2020 and we are discussing scheduling options.
Scheduling is in process for the Eastern Regional Championships, National DH Championship and National Speed Series.
NEW FOR 2020-2021
COVID-19 Guidance: The latest updates for events from U.S. Ski & Snowboard will be posted on the COVID Return to Competition page. You can find all COVID guidance from U.S. Ski & Snowboard by clicking on COVID-19 in the top menu bar on the webpage or at usskiandsnowboard.org/covid-19.
FIS Masters Update: FIS Helmets will now be REQUIRED for all FIS Masters GS and SG events.
Fluorocarbon Wax Ban Update: FIS and U.S. Ski & Snowboard have prohibited wax products containing fluorocarbons from use in all sanctioned competitions. Initial testing if any for Masters would be testing for a threshold, as it is understood that existing equipment may already have fluorocarbon wax exposure.
U.S. Ski & Snowboard is open for the 2020-21 membership season. Early-bird membership renewal deadline has been extended to November 1st. Please be aware the U.S. Ski & Snowboard has a no refund policy. We will provide another division and major event schedule update prior to the November 1st deadline.
A few years ago there was a discussion on Facebook along the lines of "I would like a shirt that says that." So here it is... a t-shirt for the masters racer that just can't quit! We also have the beanie up in the shop and will be adding a few other things over the next year! SHOP NOW
